Everett A. Martin, Jr. was born in Washington, DC, and raised in Upper Marlboro, MD. Mr. Martin attended Frederick Douglass High School, and later attended Hampton University to study Music Engineering. He studied trumpet with Robert Ransom and Barney Smart, and performed with the University Concert Band, Symphonic Winds, Jazz Band, and Brass Ensemble. Mr. Martin also served as a drum major in the university’s marching band, “The Force”. After graduating, he worked as chief arranger/assistant marching band director at Bowie State University.

Mr. Martin served as a graduate student/teaching assistant position at Hampton University, and studied instrumental pedagogy and conducting with Barney Smart, and arranging with Smart and Alfred Davis. He played trombone and French Horn in the Concert Band, and trumpet in the Symphonic Winds.

Since completing his MT at Hampton, Mr. Martin served as director of bands at Oxon Hill Middle School for ten years, where he directed five bands. He has also taught as an adjunct instructor at Prince George’s Community College. He has performed regularly on trumpet and f horn in the Washington, DC area with numerous bands and orchestras, musicals and other chamber ensembles, in addition to playing with (and arranging music for) the Washington Redskins Marching Band for over 15 years.

Mr. Martin has taught trumpet and French Horn privately and served as a clinician, arranger, and adjudicator for over fifteen years. He has held memberships in the International Trumpet Guild, MENC (now the National Association for Music Education), MMEA (Maryland Music Educators Association), the National Band Association, and the Minority Band Director’s National Association. He is also a Life Member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Mr. Martin currently resides in Springdale, MD with his loving wife and their two wonderful boys.
